About Me
My name is Shannon Little. I graduated in May 2005 from the University of British Columbia (UBC) with my Bachelor of Computer Science degree. During the five years of my degree I participated in the Science Co-op Program. My work placements included Crystal Decisions (now Business Objects), Canada Safeway, and Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland.
My interests and future goals lie within software engineering and human-computer interaction. As for going to grad school or heading out into the real world - I don't know yet! I hope to have a better picture of my opportunities for graduate studies after this summer.
Outside of computer science I have the following interests, with varying degrees of participation: camping, hiking, boating, running, cooking, wining, dining, reading, good jazz (CBC Radio Two After Hours), singing, musical theatre, playing piano, sailing.

About My Mentor
My mentor is Karon MacLean. She works for the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia. She is part of the HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) group at UBC. Her interest are in the ‚Ç£design of physical, haptic and multimodal interfaces; expressive interfaces, multimodal perception and motor control.‚Ç¥
About My Project
I am working with Masters student Joseph Luk to build a hardware prototype of a haptic (touch) interface for mobile devices and to develop applications for that interface.
My work included the setup of the software libraries used to communicate with the device, evaluation of the basic capabilities of the device, development of a set of software libraries used to program patterns on the device, design and execution of two psychophysical user studies to determine the perceptual capacities of the device, and the summarizing and evaluation of my summer research in the form of a contribution to several papers.
