August 3 & 4
SPIN Lab Retreat
June 30 to July 3
Canada Day Long Weekend with family and friends in Osoyoos. I'm looking forward to some relaxing on the beach and wine touring!
- This was a beautiful weekend spent on the beach, on the boat, and at the wineries. Such a nice summer mini-break.
July 11 & 12
Sea Vancouver Festival. I have a good friend working for this marine festival who may be able to get some extra tickets!
- On Thursday we went out sailing with the UBC Sailing club and saw the outside of the boats. On Saturday my friend got us VIP passes to go tour the ships. They were all very impressive. I hope that Vancouver can repeat this festival next year!
May 30 to June 22
UBC Sailing Club White Sail III Lessons. I took these years ago, but am taking them again as a refresher course. The course runs every Monday & Wednesday evening for 3 hours.
- The lessons are done for now. I hope to take some spinnaker and trapeze lessons later this summer.
June 18
Beach BBQs & Sailing Club Beach Party. Hopefully the weather will co-operate for these!
- The weather was lousy, so unfortunately these didn't materialize.
June 19
Father's Day - Home to White Rock
- As always, a nice relaxing day at home. We took my dad out for brunch then did some work in the garden for the afternoon.
June 11
Little Family Reunion in Langley
- Lots of relatives I haven't seen in many years. Lots of older people telling old stories. It was nice to get in contact with this side of my family again. Will it be another 20 years before the next one?
June 4
Vlad & Dora's Wedding at Fantasy Gardens
- The short civil ceremony was nice, and the rest of the evening was in Russian! We had plenty of food to enjoy as we tried to understand what was
going on.
May 27
Convocation - UBC Chan Center at 4:00 pm.
- This was
a beautiful, inspirational day. The weather was glorious and the
ceremony was nice without being too long. My entire family and my
boyfriend came out. We went to the CS Reception afterwards where I
received an Undergrad Teaching Award, then we went out for dinner to a
Japanese restaurant.
May 28-29
Grad trip to Whistler with some fellow CS students.
-
A weekend that felt like a real vacation! We went to the beach,
played a little golf, hung out in the village, and had several yummy
BBQs. A great way to celebrate our graduation!
May 21-23
Kick-off the camping season with a May long weekend trip to Harrison Lake. Will hotsprings be found? Only time will tell...
- Well, we didn't find hotsprings, but we made our own our of a tarp, a couple bilge pumps, garden hose and copper coils. It wasn't a bad weekend, but I was feeling a bit under-the-weather for most of weekend, which put a damper on things for me. I'm looking forward to more hiking/camping trips this summer.
May 7 & 14
Girlsmarts Workshop @ UBC. I am volunteering to help out with this workshop put on by the CS department at UBC for grade 6 and 7 girls. It introduces them to computer science through some fun workshops. Check out the website: http://www.cs.ubc.ca/local/committees/FoWCS girlsmarts/girlsmarts.html
- Last Saturday's (May 7) workshop was lots of fun. The girls were so energetic and SMART! I'm looking forward to this Saturday.
- The final workshop seemed to be even more successful than the first. The girls rated our cryptography activity as more fun and more educational than the first week.
May 7
(Almost) summer kickoff BBQ at Cliff's place.
- This party was a blast! We had a good turnout and I managed to have some good conversations with a lot of friends I haven't seen in a while. Thanks Cliff!
Almost done
Moving! I'm still in the middle of moving into my new place. Boxes are everywhere!
- The move is more or less done. Still a few minor things left to do, but all the boxes are put away.
