Project: A Preliminary Study of the Effects of Color and Age on Web-based Task Performance

Student Researchers: Leigh Lambert, Sarah Peterson
Advisor: Barbara Boucher Owens
Institution: Southwestern University

Color combinations of textual information on webpages affect user performance, as measured by response accuracy and response times. To study these effects, we will present web-based reading comprehension tasks in different color combinations to participants and record their response times and accuracy levels. Participants will be volunteers from a small university campus ranging in age from 18-22 and 27-33 and in an equal male-to-female ratio. Results from this study could be used to design software targeted for specific age groups based on which color combinations are most effective for the group.
