Our team is studying the distributed/parallel scheduling problem. We have learned PVM, the parallel virtual machine language developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratories. We have studied the algorithm developed last year for this problem and are now timing the algorithm for various cases on our network of workstations. Using these timings, we will measure the performance of the algorithm and then try to improve it. We will continue this cycle with hopefully improved performance. Our plan is to submit our results to a conference in the Spring.
