Distributed Mentoring Program
Irene Cooperstein

The Distributed Mentoring Program, sponsored by the Computer Research Association's Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research(CRA-W), is designed to give young women in the field of computer science an opportunity to experience graduate studies over the course of a 10-week summer internship. This site details my own experiences with the DMP in Corvallis, Oregon. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding the DMP program, whether you're a student thinking about applying, a professor considering mentoring, or just otherwise interested in the program.

Overview

Location

I was located at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. I stayed for a total of 10 weeks, and shared a dorm room with Aye Thuzar, another DMP student, for most of that time.

Project

My research focused on end-user software engineering. Specifically, we were studying ways to effectively reduce the occurance of errors in user-developed spreadsheets. My own personal work involved conducting a useability study and preparing several papers for publishing.
