Imagine my suprise when I received an e-mail stating that I was selected for the Computing Research Association's Distributed Mentoring Project. One of my best friends and I celebrated my award, and I spend the next few months coping with my excitement for my impending trip.
Sure enough, on the first week of June, I crammed as many goods as was physically possible into two suitcases and departed for a suburb of Portland, Oregon. My mission, as I chose to accept it, was to spend ten weeks doing research at the Oregon Graduate Institute at the Oregon Health and Science University. My assigned mentor was Dr. Wu-Chang Feng of the Systems Software Lab.
But I was not alone. The Distributed Mentoring Project sent two other girls to Porland: Jennifer Johnson and Angelika Herbold. There were also interns from France and Canada. So Jen, Angelika and I embarked on a journey for knowledge unlike any other....
Thanks to everyone at OGI for a fun and informative summer. A special thanks to Dave Maier for the "interntainment" (ha ha ha), including weekly reading groups, guest speakers and a trip to Cape Lookout. It was a summer that I will always remember. Thanks again!
