Distributed Mentor Project 2005- Alison Flynn </head> <body> <h1><div align="center">DMP 2005</div></h1> <h2><div align="center">About the Project</div></h2> <h3><div align="center">Project Information</div></h3> <br> <br> <p> Our project is entitled "DSSimulator: A Simulator for Scalable Distributed Systems, and was originally created by Jawwad Shamsi. The project "is an object oriented platform to simulate distributed systems, applications, and protocols", and "provides a flexibles environment as different DS applications such as P2P, overlay, etc can be deployed and simulated". (From the Developer's Guide written by Jawwad Shamsi). </p><p> This simulation produces an approximation of network behavior, focusing almost entirely upon the application level of analysis and presuming that all messages are sent as a single packet. These simplifications, however, enable the simulator to emulate the behavior of massively large networks in a reasonable amount of time. </p> <p> Ours goals for this summer consist of: </p> <ul> <li>Implementation of node and edge failure, possibly at the network level</li><br> <li>Implementation of dynamic changes to network topology</li><br> <li>Improvement of user interface</li><br> <li>Comparison of this abstract simulator with a packet-level simulator</li> </ul> <br> <br> <br> <div align="center"><font face=Arial size=-2> Questions or comments?
