July 3 - July 9

I went in on Monday (since I was planning to take a day off), and there were actually a few other people in the office too. Not in the pod though. I felt like I was finally getting a slight hold on those Calendar objects. Tuesday, unfortunately, felt less productive. I think I'm having client-server problems, but I really don't know anything about that stuff. I'm pretty sure the code I'm writing should work, but it does half the time and doesn't half the time and I haven't been able to track down any good reason why. I also let myself get distracted later in the day because I had to make a lot of calls and otherwise finalize a lot of other Pittsburgh stuff. Tuesday night Wendy and I left for Pittsburgh, spent all Wednesday there and came back by 12:30 Thursday. She was going to go see a friend, and I went along to try and find an apartment again (I found one, btw). I hope when I get a real job when I'm done with school it'll be as flexible as this is. Basically as long as you do your work and you're there for meetings, Professor Rosson and Carroll don't seem to care when you're in and when you aren't. By the end of Thursday I'd decided to leave calendar objects alone until Craig got back (thankfully he was fine, what with the bombings in London and all!). I mean, I'm pretty much done all the stuff I want to with Calendars, except it's randomly buggy and I don't know why. Friday stretched on forever. Professor Rosson is still gone, so we had no ILSD meeting again, so that meant I had no meetings this week! That's pretty absurd around here. I did a lot of reorganizing my code and fixing stuff up and went on a little commenting spree, because one thing that bugs me about BRIDGE is the lack of documentation. I mean, there are over 800 classes or something, and several different people have worked on them, and some classes are documented really well, but some aren't, so I decided to fix some of the ones I have been working with. Then maybe the next new person coming in won't have to pull their hair out trying to understand how objects work. I also started thinking about folder objects. I have an idea what I want to do with them, but I wasn't able to quite think out how to do it. I still didn't get around to reading that paper. I tried to, more than once, but I just stared at the paper. I really couldn't concentrate Friday. I'd planned to stay late to make up for coming in late Thursday, but that didn't happen. I feel like I'm always making up hours. I need to stay put so I can do a regular work week. Unfortunately though, I'm about to take another day off =).

Basically this was not a happy week. It felt very disjointed and non-productive. Hopefully things will go better next week when Craig and Professor Rosson are back and I'll feel like I have some sort of direction again.
