So I was supposed to get back to State College Monday night, and get back to work as of Tuesday morning. Due to some complications, I didn't get back and start my work week until Tuesday afternoon. I worked on finishing setting stuff up for my first study until Wednesday morning. I didn't want to start having people participate in it until somebody gave it the OK, but Prof Carroll and Rosson were out of office until Thursday, and Craig was busy. So instead I worked on my paper a little more. Thursday morning I went back and forth with Craig a bit, changing some things in my study until we were both satisfied. We decided I should have one person step through it to kind of test it out, so we could get an idea of if we needed to change anything, so Julie volunteered to help me out. So there was this set of pages created in BRIDGE a few months back with notes, discussion etc, dealing with the planning for a paper that got submitted to the ACM GROUP 2005 conference. There was a lot of activity on these pages within the space of a few weeks, so I went through the version histories of these pages, and recreated them and produced RSS feeds reporting the changes that occured. It also reports changes in a calendar and some user lists I made up. I have 10 feeds that represent 10 different times, and the items in each feed represent the changes that occurred in the objects that existed at that time. Hopefully this makes sense to you. I'll explain it in more detail in my final report. So anyhow, I had Julie go through the feeds in order, and answer some questions. I went through her results and realized that there were quite a bit of things that I needed to tweak, so that was very helpful.
So I changed a few things and worked on my paper until Friday afternoon when Craig and I met with Prof Rosson and Prof Carroll. They seemed to like it, but we ended up changing some more things. Then it was straight to ILSD meeting. Then after that, Damien came by and was the first person to do my new and improved study. I think it went better. Next week I'm hoping to get some of the people who actually worked on the paper in question and edited or at least kept up with the status of these pages, to partcipate in my study. After I went through Damien's results, I worked on my paper a while more. Amazingly enough I'm up to 5 pages now. Writing papers takes really long when they are single spaced. At least sticking in screenshots makes it a little more interesting =). I'm a little worried about my paper though. I love to write, and I love to tell stories, and I fear my paper is becoming one big story. It's natural for me to write in a tone that's light and borders on a little silly, but I don't know how to make this sound more... scholarly and professional. We'll see.
