Week 10

(August 6, 2007 - August 10, 2007)

This week was very busy! I spent the whole week working on my final report and cleaning up. I cleaned up files on the computer so that when I left and my computer account was wiped, no important files would be lost. I also cleaned up my desk and found it absolutely amazing how much stuff one can accumulate at a workstation over the course of three months.

Every day this week I worked on my final report, which can be found here. Each day I wrote more and edited my work from the previous day. Then in the evenings Sarita proofread my essay and gave me suggestions about how to improve it. She helped me to decide that the overall goal of my paper would be to show that we need to differentiate tangible interfaces from virtual interfaces. Additionally, she pointed me to other conference papers to use for sources and citations in the paper. Taneshia also assisted in the paper writing process because she knew a lot of great quotes from our students this summer and was able to point me to the quotes that were most applicable to what I was writing about.

So now I have come to that point in the summer, where I have to thank everyone for the great opportunity and learning experience that I have received this summer. Not only did I have a great summer living in a new place and meeting new people, but I was given the opportunity to learn new things and influence the lives of others. I felt that by teaching middle school students this summer I was really able to help other people and influence them in a positive way. I have to thank Sarita for giving me the opportunity to work on her research project this summer; I learned so much and greatly enjoyed the research we did this summer. I cannot thank Sarita enough for all the suggestions she gave for my paper, without her it would not be the paper it is now. I would also like to thank Amy for inviting and allowing me to work in her lab for the summer. She has been a very good mentor to me, always available to answer my questions. I would also like to thank Taneshia for working with me this summer and being a friend. Lastly, I would like to thank the CRA-W for arranging this internship and making it possible. Thanks for reading, I had a great summer and I hope you enjoyed reading about it!
