Faith Ellen: Canadian Distributed Mentoring Project(DMP)
University of Toronto

Faith Ellen is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1982. From 1983 to 1986, she was an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Washington. Then she joined the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. She was Associate Chair of her department from 1992 to 1994 and Vice-Chair of SIGACT from 1997 to 2001. Professor Ellen is also a member of the Computing Research Association Committee for Women in Computing Research and is the director of the Canadian Distributed Mentor Project. Her research is in the area of complexity theory. She particularly likes to prove lower bounds on the complexity of distributed computing and data structure problems, with the goal of understanding how parameters of various models affect their computational power.
