  • AnnokiBlooms - Summer 2006
  • Annoki Blooms is a java based application that assists children in learning how to write stories and comprehend them, through the use of Bloom's taxonomy (Annoki - annotated wiki, Blooms - Bloom's Taxonomy). AnnokiBlooms uses an Annoki Page and a specific template to parse an annoki page that contains either a story the child has written, or a story that a teacher has provided. Once the parsing is complet, and an XML XTM file has been created, AnnokiBlooms uses this file to create a graphical representation of the file (timeline, flow chart, mind map, hierarchy). This graphical representation can either be complete (with all ndoes filed in) or incomplete (some or all nodes missing, and the child can explore the different nodes and learn more information about them through tool tips and graph extents that pop up. There are currently four different graphic organizers that can be used (Mind Map, Hierarchy, Flow Chart, Timeline), and more will be added in the future. A teacher planner wizard is also included, that allows the teacher to create a graphical representation of a story that the children can view without using an annoki page. (Like the EduNuggets project, but simplified).

  • Summer Mentoring - Summer 2006
  • Along with Cleo Espiritu, I am supervising a WISEST sutdent this summer who is helping me on the AnnokBlooms project. The goal of the WISEST student's job is to learn about programming in java, software engineering and obtain hands-on experience on a software engineering tool. The WISEST student will be working on specific features of the GUI side of AnnokiBlooms. A help panel and teacher planner panel will hopefully be added to assist teachers in creating graphic organizers.
