The Project
Summer 2007
Last summer, I worked with Dr. Ying Zou and other students in the Software Reengineering Research Group to develop a tool which extracts and analyses business processes.
The main focus of my work was to develop a tool to convert extracted workflow data so that it can be viewed in the IBM WBI Modeler. This included analysing how the data flows through the different workflows and coming up with an algorithm to group the data accordingly.
The group's work was described in a paper entitled "A Business Process Explorer: Recovering and Visualizing E-Commerce Business Processes", which accepted at the 30th International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2008) in the Formal Research Demonstration Track. The conference was held in Leipzip, Germany in May 2008.
Summer 2008
This summer I will begin by expanding my previous project to include additional functionality. I will then begin to work on a new project, analysing how a change in an extracted workflow will affect the underlying source code. For example, if a business person was to change the name of one task within the WBI Modeler, how will the software know how to react to the change? How much of the underlying source code will be affected?
In June, I will be attending CSERC with my mentor and other students from the research group. This is a two-day conference that will allow me to investigate research from other universities, and learn about other areas in computer science and software engineering.
