Project: Extracting Questions from Discussion Groups by Text Mining
Student Researchers: Alina N. Badus, Marie Joiner, Lillian Kittredge
Advisors: Dave Musicant, Jeff Ondich
Institution: Carleton College
The purpose of this project will be to examine and implement methods for automatically extracting frequently asked questions (FAQs) from USENET message group postings. This project began as a CREW experience at Carleton College last year, and the team members were quite successful at obtaining some preliminary results in identifying which message group postings contain questions. This new team will use natural language processing and text mining techniques to better identify which messages contain questions, and to look at how to organize these questions and pointers to answers in a coherent format.
