Why I chose to do Undergraduate Research

I had originally wanted some sort of internship that would give me more experience in the field of computer science. I only decided to look into doing research after I received a letter urging undergraduate students to apply for the University of Delaware's Summer Scholar's Research Program. After reading about the program, I decided to look into the different computer science projects around my campus to see if any of them peaked my interest. I found that a lot of the projects were appealing and all the students who have participated in the program (that I spoke to atleast) said that it was a great learning experience. This convinced me to look for a project that would be fitting for a student with my background that would also satisfy my educational goals.

How I went about choosing a project that would interest me

I actually "researched" the different computer science projects that were available here at the University of Delaware. Out of all of the possibilities, I was able to narrow my choices down to the three different projects. After I scheduled meetings and met with the professors leading each of the different projects, I put them in an order of interest. I really enjoyed the description that Lori Pollock, my mentor, gave me of the project that she is leading, and she informed me of the CRA-W Program. After looking at the CRA-W website, I decided to apply for the program and request to work with Lori.
