CITRIS
Director Position
The University of California, Berkeley, invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS), a four-campus institute with participation of the Berkeley, Davis, Santa Cruz, and Merced campuses of the University of California. The mission of the Center is the creation and application of new engineering approaches, methodologies, and technologies to more quickly and effectively address large and important societal problems. CITRIS currently provides a framework for research in intelligent infrastructures, information technologies for energy and the environment, service sciences and management and the delivery of health care. The Center’s activities involve over 150 research faculty and more than 400 Ph.D. students from over 40 academic departments on the four campuses and it oversees a current portfolio of over $50 M annually in sponsored projects supported by industry and government agencies.
A successful candidate is expected to have:
• Demonstrated achievement at the highest levels in research, equivalent to the Full Professor level at a leading research university or industrial laboratory, in an area relevant to the CITRIS agenda
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a large research activity in an academic or equivalent environment
• Demonstrated ability to work with and to effectively develop a shared vision with a diverse set of constituencies, including industry, state and federal government, the general public, University faculty and University administrative elements
It is expected that the Director will also be appointed as a UC Berkeley Faculty member in a department appropriate to the field of the candidate. Application should include a curriculum vitae, bibliography, a brief description of research and other interests, and management accomplishments. Please include the names of three references.
