COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FOR UNDERGRADUATE WOMEN (CREW)

IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING AWARD

AAAS COLLOQUIUM ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY POLICY

CRA 1998/1999 TAULBEE SURVEY RESULTS

The Taulbee Survey is a crucial source of information on the enrollment, production, and employment of Ph.D.'s in CS and CE, as well as for salary and demographic data for CS and CE faculty. The Survey's final results are published each March in the CRA newsletter, Computing Research News.

The results are now available in .pdf format on the CRA website at <http://www.cra.org/statistics/>

COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FOR UNDERGRADUATE WOMEN (CREW)

CRA's Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research (CRA-W) is pleased to announce the third year of an initiative to support women involved in undergraduate research. CREW is designed to provide collaborative research experiences for groups of two to three undergraduate women during the 2000-2001 academic year. It is hoped that by increasing the opportunity to do research and by decreasing the isolation that may be experienced in doing independent research, women scientists and engineers will be encouraged to pursue similar work in graduate school. The application deadline is May 15, 2000.

IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING AWARD

"The goal of this award is to recognize individuals who have made pedagogical contributions to the computer science, computer engineering, and information science and technology disciplines that have had a significant impact on undergraduate teaching. These contributions may be materials that introduce an innovative and effective way of approaching their subject matter, or teaching methodologies that improve the educational experience." The deadline for nominations is August 1, 2000.

For a nomination form and more information, visit the IEEE-CS website at <http://hopper.computer.org/awards.nsf/cse>

AAAS COLLOQUIUM ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY POLICY

The 25th Anniversary AAAS Colloquium will be held April 11-13, 2000, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. The Colloquium provides a forum for discussion and debate about budget and other policy issues facing the S&T community. This year's theme is "Science and Technology at the Millennium: Retrospect and Prospect." Among the featured speakers is Bill Joy, Co-founder and Chief Scientist at Sun Microsystems.
