INTERNET2 NETWORK RESEARCH WORKSHOP: ONE-PAGE PROPOSALS DUE JUNE 1
A research planning committee representing the Internet2 consortium has issued a Call for Interest for the Internet2 Network Research Workshop, which is scheduled to meet in Chicago June 28-29, 2000. The Committee "believes the time has come to convene researchers from the Computer Science community along with Internet2 leaders to explore ways in which Internet2 can facilitate and provide opportunity for research initiatives. Internet2 is in a position to facilitate access to existing and, where required, new network facilities and to collaborate with the researcher to attract research support from research agencies and corporations associated with the Internet2 effort."

"SCAFFOLDING THE NEW WEB" REPORT RELEASED BY RAND
The Science and Technology Policy Institute at RAND has released "Scaffolding the New Web: Standards and Standards Policy for the Digital Economy." [From the Summary:] "Today's standards appear good enough to see the digital economy through the next few years. But it is unclear how much longer the momentum of such commerce can be sustained absent new standards. Are today's standards processes adequate? Where are they taking the industry (and where is the industry taking them)? Is government intervention required to address systemic failures in their development?"
