NSF/CISE Experimental Partnerships Program: November 1, 2000 Deadline

"The NSF/CISE Experimental Partnerships Program will accept proposals for possible FY2001 funding. The deadline is November 1, 2000. We will consider a request for an extension of this deadline due to the confusion over the deadline given on various NSF webpages. We strongly encourage you to contact the Program Director, Carl Smith (703-292-4779; chsmith@nsf.gov) or the Division Director, Rick Adrion (703-292-8980; wadrion@nsf.gov) if you are interested in submitting a proposal. All of the activities funded under the Experimental Partnerships Program are appropriate activities for consideration under the Information Technology Research Program."

CRA-W Publications on Graduate School and Career Development

The CRA Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research (CRA-W) has released two publications: 1) the CRA-W Graduate School Information Guide: "advice on the decision to pursue a graduate degree, the application process, and matriculation," as well as information on the experiences of women in CSE and a list of sources of financial support; 2) CRA-W Career Mentoring Workshops: advice culled "from nearly a decade of workshops on topics such as 'Getting a Job,' 'Building a Research Career,' 'Obtaining Federal Funding,' 'Time Management and Family Issues,' 'Networking,' 'Perspectives from the Smaller Schools,' and 'Tenure'."

IEEE Information Literacy Workshop, November 3 - December 3, 2000

"The Goal of the Workshop is to provide a forum for an extended National Discussion of the Workplace Requirement for Information Literacy in the Twenty-first Century. The objectives are to create an awareness of the challenges, to stimulate interactions, and to help synergize efforts and activities among the private and public segments of the community. The Information Literacy Workshop will consist of two parts: 1) A live Workshop on November 3, 2000 at Capital College, Laurel, MD; 2) A subsequent 4-Week (Question-Answer-Comment) 'On-Line Workshop' presented on the Internet."
