Outsourcing will be "Hot" Issue

Tech Daily (subscription required) reports from a Information Technology Industry council (ITI) luncheon that outsourcing of IT jobs will be a hot topic for lawmakers in the coming session.

ITI's Ralph Hellmann said congressional staffers told him that populist lawmakers from both parties plan to use the issue to "take a whack" at the technology industry this election year.

"We acknowledge that, and we want to work with the folks in this room and others to understand how other tech issues affect offshore outsourcing," Hellmann said. "If we want to be most innovative, all the other issues impact on that."

Legislation on stock options, class-action suits and patents all influence the competitiveness of the U.S. technology industry, Hellmann said, and thus impact the outsourcing issue.

As a result, ITI will working with broad industry and business associations, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and National Association of Manufacturers. A more specific agenda will be outlined in February.

Meanwhile, the Northern Virginia Technology Council and the Information Technology Association of America plan to meet soon to finalize plans for a new coalition on outsourcing, according to sources. The working title for the group is the Coalition for Economic Growth and American Jobs, according to sources.

This is incredible! I've never seen such a flagrant misnomer used in an organization's name. "The Coalition For Economic Growth and American Jobs".

We can only hope that these guys lose THEIR jobs to overseas competition and die penniless in the street.

Just another bunch of free market phonies.

Yea,

I find this all completely incredible! Our own government is allowing it. I'm dissapointed to find out that in Silicon Valley with all the jobs that were lost that 3 politicians don't give a damn.

They are Mike Honda, Zoe Lofgren and Anna Eschoo. They should be completely ashamed of themselves.

They are supposed to be working for the American people NOT CEOS.

I'm not anti-business. We do need business, but big business is completely out of control and have been allowed to run rough shod over the American people.

It's not only outsourcing. It's runaway drug prices that drive up the cost of medical care (Up, Up and Away).

Our government also doesn't mind that it's citizens are being poisoned despite all the hoopla about Weapons of Mass Destruction.

I have MCS, the result of sick building syndrome and pesticides. Much to my surprise, I find out after the fact and I actually finally find out why I'm sick that this is a politically incorrect illness as well.

Some of the drug companies also make pesticides and they also fund much of the medical community. They had spokespeople telling both the medical community and the government that MCS is nonexistent and we were: Psychosomatic lazy malingerers, Chicken Littles, have Mass Hysteria, are bored housewives, have emotional overload, are Chemophobes, have vapors and are really out to get special attention, money and control. Hmm.

So, this all ties together with corruption and the corporations ruling us now: What have they done for us? They're giving away our jobs, not paying their share of taxes, so our schools and fire stations are shutting down along with losing some services whilst some of them give themselves raises and golden parachutes. The money saved when they offshored our jobs went somewhere, right? Just not to us.

So, they offshored our jobs, are permitted to skyrocket the price of medical care and willingly poison its people. This is what happens when they rule our governnment and run roughshod over the American people.
