Deputy Director
Position Description
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Deputy Director serves as CRA’s chief operating officer, leading a management team that includes the Director of Government Affairs and the the Director of Programs. The Deputy Director is responsible for the day-to-day management of CRA and the overall development and implementation of its projects and programs. In addition, the Deputy Director assists in the development and preparation of the annual work plan and budget. In the Director's absence, the Deputy Director serves as the acting Director.
The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a demonstrated record of successful leadership and significant experience building teams and managing multiple, concurrent projects. He or she will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to negotiate, influence and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the CRA office in accordance with its mission and strategic plan.
- Serve as liaison to external accountants and oversee their operations.
- Establish and implement performance measures and targets for the organization overall and for its various programs.
- Participate in Board meetings and present to the Board as requested.
- Conduct a review of CRA programs, operations and staffing with the goal of aligning them.
- Assist the management team in developing, and implementing, creative and adaptive work plans that are consistent with the CRA’s strategic plan.
- Meet regularly with management team members to address needs and challenges.
- Conduct annual performance reviews and provide regular feedback to staff.
- Help develop and implement operational policies and procedures.
- Ensure that CRA maintains an open and collaborative work environment.
Key Qualifications
- Proven management skills and a track record of progressively greater leadership responsibility.
- Strong and demonstrated interest in computing research issues and goals.
- Experience with Federal research agency (NSF, DARPA, DOE and others) processes and procedures.
- Excellent personnel and administrative management skills, including goal setting and staff motivation, project monitoring and management, resource allocation and priority setting.
- Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently to identify and meet organizational objectives.
- Ability to travel as appropriate.
